The ABC of Trauma Introduction and Awareness is a CPD accredited half-day event that supports delegates to understand trauma, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and toxic stress and its impact on individuals, and explores how we can support clients to build resilience and protective factors to mitigate ACEs.

The training will also support delegates to understand trauma informed practice.

This training event has been written by Sue Penna our Creative Director. Sue spent 17 years in mental health work within the NHS as a clinician and manager. Originally trained as an Occupational Therapist, Sue has worked with a trauma informed recovery model all her professional career.

About the training

The training will explore trauma theory and how the Acceptance of a trauma model offers the potential for recovery.

It enables delegates to understand that by exploring the Behaviours that result from trauma it is possible to understand that it is ‘what happened’ to the child or young person that resulted in coping strategies that can be destructive to the individual, family and society.

By being Curious as individuals we can facilitate a collaborative culture to promote healing and autonomy.

Rock Pool’s training courses use a trauma-informed psycho-educational model.

We facilitate a safe space to ensure learning and promote collaboration. Our training is designed to be strengths based and skills building.

At Rock Pool, we recognise that all learners have different ways of receiving, understanding and making sense of new information.

All our courses are designed to facilitate all learning styles and we aim to give delegates practical tools and confidence to improve their practice.

Our team of trainers are sector experts who can bring genuine insight and valuable practical experience to the training room. It is important to us that we share valuable knowledge and expertise to support you to support others.

This is a half day course that we run twice in one day and is for up to 50 delegates each session, enabling you to train up to 100 delegates in one day.

“Rock Pool delivered high quality training to our multi-agency workforce in Harpurhey. The expertise, knowledge and work/life experiences of the trainers enabled them to deliver key messages about ACEs and trauma informed approaches in an empathetic, sensitive manner. Our evaluation found that delegates knowledge of ACEs, and how to consider them in practice improved significantly. The application of the learning is enabling practitioners to make a difference to individuals, families and the community. Whether it is a housing association working to prevent hoarding, schools changing their policy to prevent exclusions or health visitors having strength based conversations with families Rock Pool and Manchester City Council are helping residents live better lives.”

Gareth Nixon, ACEs Project Manager, Manchester City Council
