Join Rock Pool founder Sue Penna for this enhanced two-hour webinar exploring Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the effects of trauma from childhood into adulthood in greater depth.
This session builds on our introductory ACEs webinar, offering a more in-depth look at how early adversity shapes development, behaviour, relationships and long-term wellbeing.
Understanding ACEs has changed the way many professionals think about trauma. Experiences such as abuse, neglect, household dysfunction and chronic stress in childhood can have a lasting impact on brain development, emotional regulation, coping strategies and physical and mental health across the lifespan.
In this enhanced session, Sue will deepen understanding of ACEs and developmental trauma, helping practitioners recognise how trauma may present in the people they support, and why trauma-informed responses are so important.
Drawing on research and trauma-informed practice, the webinar will explore:
- What ACEs are and how they can affect people across the life course
- How childhood trauma influences brain development, emotional regulation and behaviour
- The ways trauma responses may show up in children, young people and adults
- Links between ACEs, long-term health outcomes, relationships and social challenges
- Developmental trauma and its impact on identity, attachment and resilience
- The importance of protective factors, positive childhood experiences and recovery
- Why trauma-informed practice is essential when supporting individuals affected by trauma
The key message throughout is that trauma is widespread and impactful — but with the right understanding, support and positive experiences, recovery and resilience are absolutely possible.
This session is ideal for:
- Professionals working with children or vulnerable individuals
- Teachers and school staff
- Social workers
- Youth workers
- Healthcare and mental health professionals
- Criminal justice and support services
- Frontline and support staff
- Anyone working in safeguarding, wellbeing, or supporting people affected by trauma or multiple disadvantage
