On Saturday 22nd June, Brixham Swimming Club hosted the Annual Primary Schools’ Swimming Gala at Admiral Swimming Pool.

Around 150 school children, aged 5 to 11, represented their schools in this fantastic community event.

The Gala has been running for many years, and the focus has always been on encouraging inclusivity and celebrating achievement.

Kirsty Mooney, Rock Pool’s Director of Business said:

“We know that children are stronger and more resilient when they attend sports clubs that are at the centre of a community; this interaction, learning and connectedness has a positive impact on mental health.

Brixham Swimming Club provides a vital service for young children to learn these life-skills and allows them to be part of a vibrant network of swimming coaches, children and parents.

We wanted to recognise the fantastic efforts of all the children involved by providing each of them with a microfibre towel to use each time they go swimming.”

Sara Winter, Brixham Swimming Club’s Secretary said:

“We rely on the generosity of sponsors in order to reward the swimmers for their participation and without this, they would be unable to give the children the recognition they deserve.

It takes a lot of courage for children to take part and we want them to feel a real sense of pride. For many, this may be the first time they have experienced a swimming gala and we want it to be a positive one.

Thanks to Rock Pool, all the children have a special memento to keep and remind them of the day.”
